Book or Binder Fabric Cover

 

 

 

Please read all instructions before cutting.

 

Supplies Needed

 

1. Book or Binder to cover

2. Fabric

Top Cover

Flaps

Bookmark

Lining

Very Thin Batting

Note : Sizes for fabric & Batt given in Instructions.

Instructions:

 

1. Top Cover

a. Open book or binder in middle and lay flat on table.

b. Measure total width and Add 1 1/2 inches to it.

c. Measure Height and Add 3/4 Inch to it.

d. Cut top cover fabric to this measurement.

2. Flaps

a. Cut two flaps in top cover fabric the same height as you cut the top cover fabric

b. Measure half the books front cover for the width of the flaps and Add 1/2 Inch to it.

3. Bookmark

a. Cut two strips 1 1/2 Inches by height of top fabric cover.

4. Lining

a. Cut lining same size as top cover fabric.

5. Batting

a. Cut Batting same size as top cover fabric.

6. Bookmark Sewing

a. Place the two right sides together, Leaving one narrow width end open as in photo.

b. Sew with a 1/4 Inch seam around it.

c. Clip off two top corners and turn right side out.

7. Adding Bookmark

a. Top stitch bookmark 1/4 Inch from edges.

8. Flap Sewing

a. On one long side of each flap fold under to the wrong side of fabric, A seam allowance of 1/4 Inch twice.

b. Sew down 1/8 Inch from edge as shown in photo.

9. Layer cover in order as seen in step 10. Pin all layers together.

11. a. With Batting on the bottom sew 1/4 Inch seam allowance all around leaving about a 3 Inch opening for turning, as shown in photo.

12. a. Slip fingers between lining and top fabric.

b. Turn Cover right side out. Like shown in photo

13. a. With top cover facing you top stitch 1/8 Inch away from edges, all the way around.

14. a. Slip your book into your new fabric cover.
