Mini 12" and 8" Diamond Tree Skirt

 

 

Skirt is 12" or 8" and paper pieced.

For those little tabletop trees here’s an easy fun tree skirt.

Supplies needed:

Fabric for paper piecing top diamonds

Backing fabric

Very thin batt

Embroidery thread matching one of the colors you choose for top.

A coloring sheet has been included that you may print out

if you would like to experiment with different coloring for your skirt.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.

Print out 6 diamond template sections.

For a soft skirt omit the batting.

2.

Print out one backing template. Then using backing template cut out 6 backing sections from fabric. Cut 6 batting using backing pattern.

3.

Paper piece the 6 top diamonds. Press.

4.

On work surface lay backing diamonds right side up on table. On top of the backing lay right side facing the backing a top diamond.

5.

Place one piece of the batt on top of each of the pairs of diamonds.

6.

Pin the three layers together.

 

7.

Leaving a 2" opening in the middle of one side sew around each diamond set with a ¼" seam allowance.

8.

Trim points.

9.

Turn each right side out from between the 2 fabric layers. Use a blunt tool (back end of a small paint brush is good) to push out the points of each diamond.

 

10.

Turn in ¼" seam allowance in the opening of each diamond and whip stitch closed. Press.

 

11.

Having all the notched ends of the diamonds facing toward the center either whip stitch or fancy stitch one diamond to another. Leave the last seam open.

12.

Press. Quilt and embellish if you like.
